Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between printed and engraved coasters?
Our engraved coasters (couples and family sets) are laser-etched into natural slate — the result is a monochrome, tactile finish etched permanently into stone. The printed coasters use full-colour CMYK printing directly onto round wood, so your photo appears exactly as you took it, in full colour. Different materials, different look, both handmade.
Will the colours look exactly like my photo?
The colours will be very close, but because we're printing onto natural wood (not glossy photo paper), there can be slight warmth or tonal variation depending on the grain of the wood. Bright, vivid photos tend to look fantastic. Very subtle gradients or near-white tones may appear slightly warmer than on screen.
Can I order a set of printed coasters?
Yes — each printed coaster is £5.00 and added to your basket individually, so you can order as many as you like with different photos on each. Just use the builder on this page, add one to your basket, then come back and design the next one.
How durable is the print?
The ink is water-based, so each coaster is finished with a protective spray varnish/lacquer to help seal it. This guards against everyday spills, but it isn't waterproof — please don't treat them as waterproof, leave them outside, or put them in the dishwasher. Wipe clean with a damp cloth rather than soaking, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight to keep the colours vibrant for as long as possible.
